“American Idol’s” Caleb Lee Hutchinson Takes on Carrie Underwood’s “So Small” and Pulls It Off

The Top 5 contestants on “American Idol” have to be ready for anything. Sunday night, they needed to be ready for Carrie Underwood. The most successful “American Idol” of all-time stopped by to mentor the contestants.

After getting some much-wanted advice from the country superstar, each of the 5 contestants had to perform one of her hit songs, knowing Carrie would be watching—talk about pressure.

Caleb Lee Hutchinson stepped up to the plate choosing Carrie’s “So Small” and received some honest feedback from the judges.

“I’m really being hard again,” Lionel began. “You are about as real as it comes. Your voice is actually so authentic to who you are. You’re a stylist unto yourself. What you have, you are exactly who you are on that stage and I love what you are doing.”

“I do have to say that I think that some people on this show are already physically out performing you, Katy added after praising Caleb’s sense of humor. “I know you are doing your best but once you leave this nest of ‘American Idol,’ you’ve got to flap those wings a little bit harder honey, when it comes to just working that crowd. Love you baby.”

Luke was at a loss for words after saying that Lionel and Katy stole what he was going to say, but went on to compliment Caleb’s voice. “Your voice is gonna be your own voice. You aren’t going to sound like anybody else. Ride that. Embrace it,” he added.

In the end, Caleb made the cut to the final three, joining Maddie Poppe and Gabby Barrett for the “American Idol” champ title.
