You may have heard this already, but I’m just going to say it again — pop diva and 1980s style icon Cyndi Lauper is going country.
The pop singer-songwriter, best known for her 1979 smash hit “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” is currently smack dab in the middle of working on her upcoming country LP Detour in Nashville. Lauper, who grew up listening to country and R&B music, says she’s creating the album to pay homage to a time when country and R&B music were more closely related.
While working on the album, Lauper has been continually inspired by country icon Dolly Parton — because who isn’t? The hotel where Lauper has resided while recording the album donned the inspiration phrase “What Would Dolly Do?” Seeing that phrase daily, inspired Lauper to cover a Dolly Christmas classic “Hard Candy Christmas.”
I just have to say that even though Cyndi and country is a combination none of us may have never thought of or knew we needed, it’s surprisingly pleasant. After listening to the talented artist cover Dolly Parton’s hopeful Christmas classic, it actually makes total sense.
