Outrage! How could he? Followers thought the country singer was wearing a shirt to support Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. But what they actually missed,  was the shirt also had a #20 on it, that of football legend Barry Sanders.

The “Friends in Low Places” singer was playing a concert in Detroit at the Detroit Lions stadium, where B A R R Y Sanders is a football legend. Barry was an award-winning running back for the Lions from 1989-1998.

Needless to say, the comments about Garth’s political support were fast and furious.

“Good grief. Can’t you just do what you get paid to do ???? Why why why does it have to involve politics !!! 🤢 So sad. We don’t pay good money for anything other than to watch you perform. 😡Thought you were different. 🤦‍♀️,” one commenter shared.

“Nothing like supporting a communist to loss a few fans! How about going to a successful socialist country and doing some research? Oh yes, you can’t because there aren’t ANY successful socialist countries!,” added another.

“If this is for Bernie Sanders, I’m done with you. I thought you were a true American that loves Our Country?,” wrote another follower.

“I wish you would’ve kept your political preferences to yourself. Peace out,” shared a fan.

The confusion was eventually cleared up when other followers revealed that it was a tribute to Barry Sanders, not Bernie, and one commenter even went as far as to ask if anyone apologized after jumping on the country star. (We’re guessing not)

“Has any single person who has been corrected on their ignorance responded back saying sorry for misinterpreting? I got tired of scrolling looking for any.”

Just another example of the divisiveness politics has caused in our country. Let’s just all step back take a breath and love one another!
