Just days after premiering the song on the stage of the CMT Music Awards, Kelly Clarkson released a brand new music video for “American Woman,” a song she covered for the new show “American Woman” starring Alicia Silverstone, Mena Suvari, and Jennifer Bartels.

In a behind the scenes piece about the music video, Clarkson weighed in on why she wanted to sign on for the project, and what she did to ensure that the song had the vibe she was hoping for.

“I was pretty excited when Paramount came to me with the idea of cutting ‘American Woman’ for the show they are doing called ‘American Woman,” Clarkson said in the taped piece.

“I got to see the whole trailer to it and the vibe of it and I loved it. We wanted to create this moody seventies vibe, kind of that classic sound of it too because there are all these kinds of things we love. We felt we would present ‘American Woman’ and the whole lyric of it and the strength and the boldness and the powerfulness that I think American women exude.”

The video release ends what has been quite an eventful time for Clarkson, as she also came home as the winning coach of “The Voice” last month.
