Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean and Wife Share Journey of Love in Video for “Boy and A Man”

If you’re the least bit romantic, you may want to grab a tissue or ten before you take a look at the new music video from AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys, “Boy And A Man.”

Directed by Rene Elizondo Jr., “Boy And A Man” takes viewers on the fairy tale journey of everlasting love that begins in childhood and ends at “until death do you part.” And while it shows the literal evolution of a boy growing into a man, it focuses more on how a relationship develops from the early beginnings as childhood friends through the tender teen years, marriage, and then growing older and finding the grace to say goodbye.

AJ plays narrator for much of the video, however, he and wife Rochelle do play the couple in the wedding scene, and if you think the elderly gentleman who closes out the video bears a striking resemblance to the singer-songwriter, it’s because it is AJ.

“Boy And A Man” is the third single from AJ’s Long Road collection—a decidedly country- leaning project that was mostly created in Nashville’s country music community. On the red carpet for last year’s ACM Awards, AJ announced to Billboard, that he had plans to “disrupt country music” with his new solo release, and while his first two singles, “Back Porch Bottle Service” and “Night Visions” were more in line with his previous pop releases, “A Boy And A Man” shows more of the Nashville influence.
