13 Best Country Music Lyrics of the Year

As we near the end of 2017, it’s only fitting that One Country shares a few of those classic, end of the year lists. Like you, we are kind of bored with the typical end of the year lists, so we’re putting our own spin on a few!

While songs like “Body Like A Back Road” and “What Ifs” dominated the country music charts this year, most of our favorite lyrical turns came from a few deep cuts and a couple radio hits.

Note: we’re going with songs released this year on an album. So, you won’t see any Miranda Lambert, Brandy Clark or Sturgill. They made the list last year.

13 Best Country Music Lyrics of the Year:

1. Maren Morris // “Dear Hate”

Written by: Maren Morris

You were there in the garden, like a snake in the grass
I see you in the morning staring through the looking glass
You whisper down through history and echo through these halls

But I hate to tell you, love’s gonna conquer all

Technically, Morris wrote this a couple of years ago, but she officially released it after the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas. These lyrics, unfortunately, will ring true for many more years to come, but will hopefully provide comfort and encouragement too.
