As Blake Shelton tells it, the Oklahoma native never would have recorded his hit song “I’ll Name The Dogs” if it wasn’t for girlfriend Gwen Stefani. Shelton revealed that bit of information to One Country during ACM Awards weekend (April 14) out in Las Vegas.

While the tune has Shelton singing lines like, “You name the babies and I’ll name the dogs,” he has yet to name a dog in real life for his pop star girlfriend.

“Actually, I did name a dog. No, I named a parrot,” Shelton recalls. “[Gwen] bought it for her kids and I named it Dodo. Dodo, and I named it, I’m very proud of that. All it’s learned how to do is make the same sound that your shoes make when they squeak on the floor. The most annoying sound you’ve ever heard in your life. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in the house by myself and hear like a (makes sound of bird). And you think, ‘Oh who’s here?’ It’s the parrot.”

The “Boys ‘Round Here” singer recently wrapped his Country Music Freaks Tour with friends Brett Eldredge and Trace Adkins. He will return to L.A., following the ACM awards, to resume shooting the live portion of the “The Voice.”

The new season has friend Kelly Clarkson joining Shelton, Adam Levine and Alecia Keys as a judge, and from the sound of it, Blake couldn’t be happier.

“We go back live Monday and it’s through till the middle of May,” Shelton said. “Kelly [Clarkson] is fun having on the show. She’s out of her mind. She’s crazy. She doesn’t shut up. You can’t get a word in with her there.”

We’re sure you’ll manage Blake.
