Reba is on a mission to give out as many early ACM Awards as possible. She is currently in residency in Las Vegas with Brooks & Dunn, but she took time out of her busy schedule to call Brett Young and congratulate him on his New Male Vocalist of the Year Award. He looked stunned.
I mean, I assume he was thrilled. He seemed to take it all in stride, really. Lauren Alaina cried when Reba called. Midland thought it was a prank. Brett took it as I might if my parents announced they were adopting a new dog. “Well, I was already planning on coming home for Christmas but now I wouldn’t miss it for the world!”
This is Young’s first major music award. He was nominated for the CMA New Artist of the Year and the CMT Breakout Artist of the Year but failed to take home either trophy. It may take time for the shock of winning to really sink in. Shoot, he found out on a random call from Reba while wearing sweats. That does seem a bit unreal.
