Carrie Underwood’s “Cry Pretty” Video is an Inside Look at Fame Through Ugly Tears

Since its release, Carrie Underwood‘s “Cry Pretty” has resonated with fans and critics alike as one of the more personal tunes the superstar has ever released. And though Underwood doesn’t usually walk down dark alleys alone in full-glam, the video for the song also seems to be a pretty real look into what life is like when everyone in the world knows who you are, what you do and what you look like.

The video finds Underwood walking down dark alleys and ugly crying in the shower before taking the stage and fighting through whatever emotions are causing the darkness. The message seems to be clear– famous people are real people with real problems.

The song was written by Underwood, with her favorite collaborator Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose. Underwood is set to release an album of the same name on September 14.
