Carrie Underwood is beautiful inside and out. When the singer received 40-50 stitches in her face last year, rumors about what she would look like started to swirl.

In November 2017, Carrie took a fall in front of her house that left her seriously injured. The “Church Bells” singer was taken to the hospital where she was told she suffered a broken wrist with cuts and abrasions but there were no life-threatening injuries. In a letter to her fan club, she later revealed that she received 40-50 stitches in her face.

“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up. It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life. In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”

Carrie then stayed out of the spotlight for months causing fans and media to speculate about what she looked liked. Many people believed that the singer was disfigured and getting plastic surgery, a rumor that the 35-year-old denies.

The “Cry Pretty” singer is speaking out about the injury in the September issue of Redbook, where she graces the cover addressing rumors and plastic surgery.

“I’m on some magazine every other week for something crazy. It’s a little sad, because the truth is just as interesting,” she tells Redbook. “I wish I’d gotten some awesome plastic surgery to make this [scar] look better. But I try not to worry too much about it. My mom will be like, “Did you see they are saying this about you?” And I’ll be like, “Mama, I don’t care. I’m just trying to raise my son and live my life.”

Carrie also went on to give women who look up to her some advice about confidence.

“The first thing I would tell them is that we’re all insecure; that’s just called being human,” she explains to the magazine.”I feel like the most important thing to realize is that even people who seem to be super confident have insecurities that they are dealing with. Honestly, you just do the best you can. Don’t worry about things you can’t change.”
