Summer is just around the corner and the season of beaches, bikinis, and boardwalks just got as cool as your favorite boozy slushy, thanks to Carrie Underwood and her sizzling new anthem, “Southbound.”
Carrie debuted the single, which she co-wrote with David Garcia and Josh Miller, poolside at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards, where she was joined by her Cry Pretty 360 Tour partners, Maddie & Tae, and Runaway June.
Much like Faith Hill’s 2006 Top 10 hit, “Sunshine & Summertime,” the groove of “Southbound” feels more like Little Havana than Redneck Riviera, however, cool scratchy production and a popping arrangement give it a contemporary feel and a toe-tapping Flora-Bama energy that is as intoxicating as that third bushwhacker.
Carrie and her team have not released an official music video for the soon-to-be-smash that has us searching for our sunscreen and flip-flops, but we sure hope one is coming.
In the meantime, here’s hoping that the ladies of the Cry Pretty 360 Tour reunite on stage for a live version of “Southbound.” The tour kicks off on May 1 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and wraps October 31 in Detroit, Michigan. with just a couple of small detours into Canada and the U.K. And although that means we’ll be diving into pumpkin spice latté season when Carrie finishes up, we’ll be clinging to the remnants of summer for as long as she wants to keep singing “Southbound.”
