In anticipation of the release of his new single, “Raised On Country,” Chris Young has been covering songs from artists he was raised on, including Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee,” George Strait’s “The Fireman” and Merle Haggard’s “Silver Wings.”

“Merle, Willie, Joe Diffie, George Strait and so many more are major reasons why I do what I do today,” Chris wrote on Instagram before the releases. “I was #RaisedOnCountry and proud of it. I can’t wait for you to hear this song!”

Well, the wait is over. The Tennessee native released his latest single, “Raised On Country,” at midnight and there’s no doubt Chris Young is keeping it country.

“Right now one of my favorite songs I have ever written drops… I remember listening to country music on the radio as I grew up and I fell in love with it,” he wrote. “This is an anthem/a party/and an ode to what I love. Enjoy!!! Here we go!”

The new tune has the country crooner singing about Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Joe Diffie, George Strait and all the country music he grew up on.

I was raised on Merle / raised on Willie / got my honky-tonk attitude from Joe Diffie / Daddy did too it’s family tradition / someone cranks it up you can’t help but listen / My upbringin’ sounds like George Strait singin’ / and I gotta give props to the radio because if you know me I was raised on country,” he sings in the chorus.

“Raised on Country” is the follow-up to Chris’s 11th No. 1 single “Hangin’ On,” from his 2017 album Losing Sleep. While “Raised on Country” does not appear on his album, Chris has said that he’s excited to be in the studio working on new music. No details for the new project have been released as of yet.
