If you’re a This Is Us watcher, then you already knew that the show’s Kate Pearson, played by Chrissy Metz, is a gifted singer. Chrissy has also performed on country music award shows, was part of the soundtrack for her movie, Breakthrough, and recently signed a recording contract with Universal Music Group in Nashville. Now anxious fans are getting a first listen of the album she is recording with the debut single, “Talking to God.”
“‘Talking To God’ is a song about those moments when we ask the questions we desperately want the answers to,” says Chrissy. “Whether it’s a lost love or why our own lives look much different than the way we had hoped they would. It’s about those personal prayers and conversations we have while listening and learning to surrender and trust in the bigger picture.”

Written by Nicolette Hayford, Connie Harrington, Jake Mitchell, Ashley McBryde and Aaron Raitiere, the thoughtful lyric offers a look at forgiveness and fortitude following the end of a relationship.
“It still stings just a little bit. / So many things I’d do different. / I’m still learning the difference / Between moving on and forgiveness / I was talking to God last night / about why things happen the way they do. / Yeah, and He shed a little light / On why I’m going through what I’m going through.”
Tenderly mournful and gently optimistic Chrissy’s lush vocal drips with effortless emotion. There’s a maturity in her delivery that makes her simultaneously vulnerable and strong, hurting and hopeful, and gives her a connection to listeners who can empathize with the ballad’s message.
Chrissy’s debut album is scheduled to drop later this year.
