Night 2 of CMA Fest’s nightly concerts at Nissan stadium kicked off Friday night, with the national anthem performed by The Walmart Boy, Mason Ramsey.
The legendary Charley Pride took the stage to treat fans to his biggest hits including, Kiss an Angel Good Morning.” But it was an influx of moths that left an impression on concert-goers as the flittering creatures swarmed the stands during night two of the nightly concerts.
However, the moth invasion didn’t stop fans from having a good time and enjoying performances by Charley, Brett Young, Jake Owen, Luke Combs, Blake Shelton, Old Dominion and Carrie Underwood.
If Brett Young was nervous about making his debut on the CMA Fest main stage at Nissan stadium, he didn’t show it. The newcomer, who has 3 consecutive No. 1’s under his belt, was at ease singing songs such as, “Close Enough,” “Left Side of Leavin,'” “In Case You Didn’t Know,” and his current single, “Mercy,” which Brett called his favorite song on the album.
Closing out his set, Brett was sure not to leave his first No. 1 song off his list. “We were not going to leave until we played this song that I first took to country radio and you guys made my first No. 1,” Brett said from the stage, before launching into “Sleep Without You.”
Jake Owen made an appearance on the stage to perform only one song, his current single, “I Was Jack and You Were Diane.”
Then it was time for Luke Combs, who recently announced he lost his voice after this performance, to grace the stage with his country boy ways. In what you could call one of the highlight performances of the night, and Luke’s debut on the CMA Fest stage, the 28-year-old treated fans to such songs as “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” “She Got The Best of Me” and “Honky Tonk Highway,” which he segued into Brooks and Dunn’s “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.”
“I hope you all are doing as good as I am,” Luke said. “When I started writing songs 7 years ago, I never dreamed I’d be up here.” It was then that Luke shared his No. 1 hit, “When It Rains It Pours,” his current single “One Number Away,” and closed out the set with the very popular, “Hurricane.”
Blake Shelton ran into technical difficulties, similar to Jason Aldean the night before, when he walked out on stage singing “I’ll Name the Dogs,” without any sound. He proceeded to sing but the crowd was not happy they couldn’t hear the superstar. The crowd began to boo to let Blake know something was wrong. Just then the sound came back on, but knowing the audience missed the first part of the song Blake said into the mic, “Stop, let’s do this again.” And as the Oklahoma native was heading off the stage to re-enter, all he said was, “That’s [email protected]#$,which prompted the crowd to cheer louder.
It was smooth sailing after that as Blake launched into “I Lived It,” followed by Hal Ketchum’s “Small Town Saturday Night” and his own 2001 hit, “Austin.” He closed out his set with a crowd boosting “Boys ‘Round Here.”—”Chew Tobacco, Chew Tobacco, Chew Tobacco, spit.”
While Blake is a hard act to follow, Old Dominion did not disappoint. The Band worked the stage, hitting concert-goers with all their favorite hits including, “Song For Another Time,” “Written in the Sand,” “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart,” and “Break Up’ with Him,” before closing out their set with “Snapback.”

Then the moment everyone was waiting for—It was time for Carrie Underwood to take the stage and close out the show. If you needed proof that Carrie is a top contender for Entertainer of the Year, look not further than her performance at Nissan stadium.
The CMT Music Award winner, for Female Video of the Year, opened up her set by taking the crowd to church with a powerful version of “Church Bells.” Carrie then broke into a powerful rendition of her current single “Cry Pretty,” showcasing her better than ever vocal range. She then followed it up by reaching deep into her song catalog to bring out some oldies, such as “Last Name,” “Wasted” and “Undo It.”
Decked out in a sequined green romper, showing off those oft-talked about toned legs, Carrie closed out her set with “Dirty Laundry” “Blown Away” and a crowd favorite “Before He Cheats.”
Even the Oklahoma native felt the heat of her performance, taking to Twitter to share her excitement. “Holy hotness, Nashville! That stadium was on
tonight! Dunno how I’m gonna sleep tonight after that show!
#CMAfest.”
And with that, Day 2 of CMA Fest was in the books.
