As Dan + Shay took the stage during the 53rd Annual ACM Awards to sing their hit, “Tequila” I happened to have my back turned as I was typing something. (This was a total fluke, I’m very much on record stating that I think this song is going to change Dan + Shay’s career.) As I was typing and listening to the performance I thought to myself, “why does that sound like a voice I know?”
As I turned around and saw Cam on the screen I thought, “oh, cool…wait, who are those other people? What is she doing? Oh, she doesn’t have a microphone.”
As Dan + Shay continued to absolutely slay their performance, which has the song sitting at No. 10 on the iTunes all-genre chart at press time, I realized Cam was just there to enjoy the experience as a fan and she had the time of her life. The only person who enjoyed it more was the random lady in the crowd that threw up praise hands towards the end.
Dan + Shay took the ACM Awards crowd, particularly Cam and that one other lady to church. And it was awesome.
After the show, Cam said on Instagram that she just really loved “Tequila” and asked to be up-close-and-personal for the performance and this all just kind of happened organically. As if someone on the stage crew had been drinking tequila.
