This past weekend was an emotional one for me.
I was in Memphis to attend the Country Cares for St. Jude Kids seminar. It’s an annual event where radio stations around the country tour St. Jude and prepare their fundraisers for the hospital.
The seminar concludes with a songwriting night, where Darius Rucker was honored with the prestigious Randy Owen Angels Among Us Award for his contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
For the past seven years, the singer-songwriter has held the Darius Rucker and Friends benefit concert, which has raised more than $800,000 for the families of St. Jude. In 2015, he recorded “Possibilities,” a song inspired by St. Jude patient, Brennan.
During the ceremony, Darius also presented the hospital with a $50,000 donation from ACM Lifting Lives, the charitable arm of the Academy of Country Music. The donation was made in Darius’ honor.
