What started out as a trip to New York for a live performance on NBC’s Today turned into an entirely different event for Dierks Bentley.

Dierks was part of the show’s summer concert series on August 1 and as part of his appearance, he went into the studio for an interview. However, also in the studio were guests appearing in another segment of the show—a collection of rescue puppies. And a connection was made.

We all know that Dierks is a dog lover and after his doggos Jake and George passed away, his family rescued two more puppers from a local shelter, likely at the urging of Dierks’ wife, Cassidy, and his children, Evie, Jordan and Knox. But the new pup, a tri-colored cutie named Goose, was a decision that the country star made all on his own.

Dierks shared video of himself with his new fur baby on Instagram and admitted, “Well…. the last thing I was expecting to happen today. But feel like it was meant to be. Welcome to the family Goose/Garrett (there was some confusion on which of the brothers he was….). That’s a wrap on @todayshow . Thanks….I think?! Off to @petco and then meet up with #burningmantour.”

As the pair exit the studio, both have an expression of apprehension, much like any two people in a brand new relationship, but we’re pretty confident that by the time they make it back to Nashville, these two will be inseparable.
