“American Idol” contestant Gabby Barrett might forever be known as the girl who really loves Carrie Underwood, but she’s continuing to make a name for herself— and country music— in the competition.
During the Top 24 Solo Performances, Gabby sang Maren Morris’ hit song “My Church,” and it was pretty incredible. While she stayed true to Maren’s version of the song, she gave it a special twist and twang of her own. When her performance was over, Luke Bryan looked at Katy Perry and said, “That’s my girl!,” which is maybe the biggest compliment a gal could get, right?
“I’m happy because we’re looking for people who have the shine and sparkle and it factor,” Luke Bryan told Gabby during the feedback segment. “You have the shine, you have the sparkle, and you have the ability to save that big ol’ note– now you have to be smart about it and not overdo it.”
Maren Morris responded to the performance on Twitter, saying “Hey Gabby Barrett…you just took me to church, woman! Made me want some hair to flip.”
