George Strait returns with a brand new track called “Código” Friday (Dec. 7). The first new music since his 2015 album Cold Beer Conversation, George co-wrote the infectious ode to tequila with his son, Bubba, and longtime collaborator Dean Dillon.

The country legend’s velvety vocals are at the forefront of the track while foot-stomping rhythms, soaring fiddle and accordion accompaniment, and mesmerizing piano parts flesh out the three-minute tune.

The song is an ode to Código 1530, a brand of tequila that “honors generations of refinement from the finest jimadors and most respected families of Mexico,” the website states. “A little sip and you’re ready to roll . . . I’m talkin’ ‘bout Código,” George croons on the track. He’s also a partner and longtime fan of the tequila brand.

The singer releases the track ahead of his two performances in Las Vega this weekend where he’ll take the stage for his 19th and 20th sold-out shows at T-Mobile Arena as part of the “Strait to Vegas” series. The King of Country first launched the concert event in 2016 with six shows and extended with 10 more in 2017, and more dates in 2018.

In 2019, George continues his select show appearances with additional dates at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as well as Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ohio Stadium in Columbus and Dickies Arena in Ft. Worth, Texas.

“Código” is the first taste of new music from King George, who is expected to release more tracks in early 2019.
