Following his win on The Voice, Jake Hoot is reaching another milestone his career—performing at the Grand Ole Opry. The 31-year-old singer couldn’t be happier to get to step in the revered circle on the Opry stage.
“It means the world to me, the fact that they would think enough of me to invite me to come out and play,” Jake told One Country prior to his big night. “Hopefully I won’t mess it up and they’ll have me back. But it’s something I’m definitely looking forward to. My grandparents that live in Texas, they’re driving back up for that. And I know for them, that’s something that’s going to be special too. It’s going to be special to have them there, to witness that. So looking forward to it.”
Joining Jake and his grandparents for his big night will be his parents, his daughter Macy, his girlfriend and her daughter and all 8 siblings and their families..
“It’ll be nice to have everybody out there and knowing that we’re all in one place, because it’s hard to coordinate everybody. But to have everybody there for that, it’s going to be special,” Jake adds.
The newly crowned The Voice winner has given some thought to what he’s going to perform as he steps on the stage of one of country’s most treasured institutions.
“I get three songs and I know I’m doing my original song ‘Better Off Without You’ that I performed on the show,” Jake reveals. “And then after that, I may do 90s country, something like ‘That Ain’t My Truck.’ And then the last one, I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet. And that’s what’s hard, I played shows for years and I’ve never done a set list. I just don’t like set lists because I always like to read the crowd.”
While there may be some nerves before hitting the stage, Jake has the words of fellow country singers, who have been there before, to help him through the night.
“The one thing that everybody talks about is just the first time you step in that circle,” Jake shared. “Jamie Dailey of Dailey & Vincent is the one who extended the invitation. I talked to him about it and I’ve talked to Darrin, the other member part of Dailey & Vincent, and I’ve talked to a couple other people who played on that stage. And they’re just like, ‘There’s just something special about being on that stage and seeing the circle. Much less standing in it and singing.’ So I’m definitely excited. I told Jamie, I said, ‘I’m going to bawl like a baby.’ He goes, ‘Everybody does.'”
Jake is set to make his Opry debut on Tuesday, February 4.
