Jana Kramer’s new podcast, “Whine Down with Jana Kramer,” which kicked off on May 7 with it’s debut episode, has the country singer dishing on everything from motherhood to marriage and music.
The latest episode, called Marriage Uncorked, has Jana inviting her husband on to the podcast, at his request, so Mike can clear up any misconceptions people might have about him and the kind of father he is to their daughter Jolie.
A nervous Jana welcomed her husband, Mike, onto the podcast 23 minutes into the 1 hour show.
“That’s the stereotype of a dad,” Mike began. “That we come home from work and sit on the couch and not do anything. Dads nowadays in general are more conscience of that and we want to partake in the daily activities with kids. I pride myself on being a present hands on dad. I understand with you joke around and bash a little bit it’s all out of fun. But it’s one thing when someone takes pride in it you want to make sure that that’s not a message that’s being portrayed.”

Jana apologized and went on to say that Mike is such a great dad, clearing the air. After Mike talked about being a hands on dad, the conversation took a turn and the married couple let it rip about the ups and downs of their marriage.
“We went to this amazing retreat. It’s called Onsite. It’s amazing,” Jana explained. “I went a couple of times, I went for a living center learn to love yourself and they also do couples. So Mike and I went for three days, no cell phones. And we learned a lot of stuff there.
“That weekend took a lot out of us,” Mike chimed in.
The couple admitted they didn’t implement anything they learned for the next year, having to learn about themselves and come to the decision to actually change. Ultimately, the breaking point came from Jana.
“It was her being like look, ‘I’m giving you every opportunity. I’m here. I am willing to work on this I want this family to work,’ Mike revealed. “Basically step up or get out. It got to a point where it was an ultimatum. That’s where I hit my breaking point. She hit her breaking point and I hit mine. It’s like, ‘I don’t want to lose her. I don’t want to lose Jana, I don’t want to lose our family, I don’t want to lose what we are trying to build.”
“We had couples therapy last night. It went good. It’s hard,” Jana says of their progress. “It’s one of those things where I have my work to do now and he still has his work. So we just have to work and grow together. It’s tough, because a lot of the time I get triggered a lot. I could watch a TV show or I could watch a movie. Sometimes I lash out. But what my job is now, because I’m doing my work, is to stay present. He isn’t doing those things anymore, so it’s ‘what is today, what is right now.’ And it’s tough, it’s hard staying present.”
Jana took to Instagram to let her fans know the new episode is available and raw. “It ain’t always pretty….It hurts like hell sometimes…..but it’s a love worth fighting for,” Jana wrote. “We have never talked about it together until now.”
And boy, did they talk about it.
