Jana Kramer and her husband Mike Caussin have been open and honest about their marriage troubles and the issues they’ve struggled with while trying to reconcile. In a recent episode of Jana’s podcast, Whine Down with Jana Kramer, Mike spoke out, taking the reins to reveal his addiction to sex.
Jana and Mike married in 2015 and separated in 2016, due to Mike’s extramarital affairs. The couple has since renewed their vows in 2017 and recently welcomed their second child, son Jace Joseph, in 2018. As they work on staying together, Jana and Mike find an outlet to talk about their issues and Mike’s treatment on the podcast.
Mike began the podcast setting the record straight, amidst all the stories out there.
“Jana and I are at a place to validate those rumors that, yes, Jana kind of gave me an ultimatum when everything came out, and she discovered everything, and she looked at me and said, ‘You need to go somewhere. Basically, you need to figure out what’s going on and what this is, or I’m gone, period,'” Mike revealed.
He revealed the he went to an in patient facility in Nashville to check himself in for 60 days.
“I’ve been in a 12-step program of sex addiction,” Mike admitted.” It’s weird to say. All my friends and family knew. So ever since then I’ve been a part of that program in the 12-step program. It hasn’t been perfect.”
Mike went on to say, “For me I realized a lot of things throughout my life that sex and sexual acting out was my addictive behavior. That’s where I went to hide my feelings, to runaway from reality and that was my drug, Mike added. “It manifests in different ways for different people. I’m approaching a year sobriety next week, where now I finally though I was at a place to discuss it and own it.”
The 32-year-old revealed that he wanted to talk about the issue publicly to help other people. The couple have realized how many people they’ve helped by speaking out and want to continue to help others who are dealing with the same problems.
Jana then expressed her pride in he husband. “I just want to say I’m proud of you for speaking your truth, that you didn’t need to. You don’t ever have to say anything because you don’t have to say anything to anyone,” Jana said. “I think it’s very big of you that you want to use this and help people because so many people live in shame.”
