On the heels of her “Space Cowboy” video dropping, Kacey Musgraves is giving us more to chew on with the release of her new video for “Butterflies.” The two songs are featured on her current album Golden Hour.
“Butterflies,” written by Kacey, tells the story of wondering aimlessly through life until meeting the person that makes her feel that fluttery feeling and also transforms her into a new person. “I was hiding in doubt, ’til you brought me out of my chrysalis / and I came out new,” she sings.
The video starts out dark as the mood lightens with the change in melody and lyrics becoming more joyful. Kacey singing and dressed in pink as light particles float all around bring about that ethereal felling. That, interspersed with quick cut images of Kacey lying amongst flowers on man’s bare chest, dressed in a sparkling body suit, butterflies emerging, horses fornicating, candy hearts, flowers blooming, lips kissing and cars spinning are used to conjure up the fluttery feelings of love.
Kacey tied her two videos, “Space Cowboy” and “Butterflies,” together by incorporating the same image. Both videos contain the shot of her sitting on the window sill as a butterfly flies away.
“Now you’re lifting me up, ‘stead of holding me down / Stealing my heart, ‘stead of stealing my crown / Untangled all the strings, round my wings, that were tied / I didn’t know him and I didn’t know me / Cloud nine, was always out of reach / Now I remember what it feels like to fly / You give me butterflies, hmm / You give me butterflies,” Kacey sings in the chorus.
Kacey’s new album, Golden Hour, was released on March 30 and is the follow-up to her 2015 sophomore album, Pageant Material.
