Naming a kid is a big responsibility. Katherine Heigl really felt that pressure with the birth of her son at the end of last year. So much so that she didn’t have a name picked out before he was born.
“I couldn’t come up with a name for ages,” she told Jimmy Kimmel. “I don’t know why, I just struggled with it. It’s a big decision and you don’t want to fail this child with the wrong name.”
She finally found inspiration in her husband musician Josh Kelley (older brother of Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley).
“I think Joshua is a beautiful name,” she said. “He’s a Joshua. His name is Joshua Bishop Kelley and I just thought that was a beautiful name. One night I broached it with him, ‘How do you feel about a junior?’ — and in the past he had said he hates that idea, that he would never be that guy, and I wasn’t finding something that I was responding to — and he went, ‘Oh, I love that. That would mean a lot to me.’ Maybe had I known that nine months ago, I would’ve had a name sooner!”
Their daughters, Naleigh and Adalaide, got their names from Katherine, her mother and her sister, so it was only fair to name one after the Kelley side of the family.
“That’s why I wanted this one to have Josh’s family, Josh’s name,” she said. “I don’t want him to be a Joshy, or a Junior or a JJ.”
So, watch yourself when giving this kid a nickname!
