When Keith Urban released his current single, “Female,” women and the music industry stood up and said thank you to Keith for cutting the song. After the much deserved attention the song garnered, Keith is now releasing a lyric video for the song.
The video is simple and understated, using splashes of black, white and pink paint to illustrate the important lyrics.
In today’s sexual misconduct climate, it’s a much needed song that addresses all that is going on in the culture— as we hear a new story everyday—to the way women are spoken to on a regular basis. The song takes a stand for women today, sharing those traits of a woman that are to be celebrated.
“Sister, shoulder, daughter, lover, healer, broken halo mother, nature, fire, suit of armor, soul survivor, Holy water,
secret keeper, fortune teller, Virgin Mary, scarlet letter, Technicolor, river wild, baby girl, woman shine, Female.” Keith sings in the chorus.
Written by Ross Copperman, Shane McAnally and Nicolle Galyon, Keith immediately heard the song and rushed to record it just three weeks after the trio finished writing it, noting it’s importance. “It’s hard to put that into words, because the song is more about a feeling as well, so I just want people to hear the song,” Keith told E! News back in November.
“Female” is just a taste of what’s to come from Keith as he is currently in the studio working on new music. Whether this song will be on the album remains to be seen, but as Keith so passionately gravitated to it, there should be no doubt.
