Someone told me once that how you spend New Year’s Eve is how you’ll spend the rest of your year. If that’s true, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman are going to be a part of some terrible interviews in 2018 and Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen shouldn’t be allowed to talk to celebrities when they aren’t standing directly in front of them.
I’m a regular viewer of Andy’s “Watch What Happens Live” on Bravo, so I’ve seen him ask a lot of invasive questions before. Usually a lot of alcohol is involved and the guests know what’s coming. Nicole and Keith were not ready for many of the questions asked of them. Anderson tried to help out Andy and Keith and Nicole, but to no avail. This was 5 minutes of pure awfulness.
First, the satellite cut out and CNN had to go back to Keith and Nicole in Nashville. Then, Nicole said all she was looking forward to in 2018 was “all working together to make this world a better place…unity… helping each other,” to which Andy just said, “and more ‘Big Little Lies!'” So, way to take it from a moment of reflection to HBO.
When Anderson tried to reflect on the big year Nicole had, Andy just screamed, “what did you give each other for Christmas?!”
Keith said a few things and then shared, “and a few things we can’t talk about… a lot of Le Perla.” Before they could really finish the Christmas gifts, Anderson asked, “do y’all make New Year’s resolutions?”
Nicole said, “I think them…” and Keith giggled and said, “and that’s as far as it goes!”
Then, it turned into a weird conference call of sorts and the delay was getting really bad.
As the four of them were fighting over which city was colder, Nashville or New York City, Andy exclaimed, “I have no genitals!”
From there, things just got worse and worse. Keith made a joke about “one ball dropping,” Nicole tried to take over the interview by talking about how talented Keith is, but Andy got back in the game by asking the question, “Keith, you gave Nicole the advice… to clap with her hands like this, so that she wouldn’t damage her jewelry. Did you ever expect that would become such a thing?”
Keith rolled his eyes like I have never seen before in my life. And Nicole just said, “I wish that there was more important things to be concerned about.”
And even though that should’ve been the end of the disaster, Keith knocked his in-ear monitor out and they couldn’t hear anything anyone was saying for another few seconds.
Happy New Year, indeed.
