Kelsea Ballerini Joins Super Elite Group of Women in Country Music

Kelsea Ballerini called “Dibs” on the top spot for both the Mediabase and Billboard Country Airplay charts this week, making her the newest member of a very elite group of women in country music.

With her second consecutive No. 1 single off a debut album, Kelsea is one of only five women– and the first in 15 years– to have achieved this feat. Jamie O’Neal’s back-to-back No.1s with her debut “There is No Arizona” and subsequent “When I Think About Angels” in 200 was the last female to accomplish this.

Last summer when Kelsea’s debut single, “Love Me Like You Mean It” reached No. 1, she became the first solo female artist in 9 years to reach the top of the charts with her debut country single and one of only 11 women to have ever hit the top of the charts with a debut.

With back-to-back hits like this, Kelsea is definitely here to stay.

4 other female in country music artists who have had their debut country single and follow-up single go No.1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart:

Jamie O’Neal // ” There Is No Arizona” // ” When I Think About Angels” // 2000

Deana Carter // “Strawberry Wine” // “We Danced Anyway” // 1996

Faith Hill // “Wild One” // “Piece of My Heart” // 1994

Wynonna // “She Is His Only Need” // ” I Saw The Light” // ” No One Else On Earth” // 1992
