Kelsea Ballerini has never been a girl that was afraid of an ugly cry, and boy did she whip out a good one (while still looking stunning) during her appearance at the Grand Ole Opry on March 5.

Thinking she was joining friends and award-winning group Little Big Town to sing their hit single, “Girl Crush,”  Kelsea happily walked onto the Opry stage and sang the first line before the quartet’s Karen Fairchild sang, in perfect tempo, “Kelsea Ballerini, wanna join the Opry.”

“HOLY WOW @littlebigtown just asked me to sing Girl Crush with them at the Grand Ol Opry DO. NOT. MESS. THIS. UP,” Kelsea wrote on Instagram of the moment.

The young star’s face went from amused to tears in a flash as she turned away from the audience and walked back to the band where she was welcomed with big hugs from LBT, who became Opry members in 2014.

Fortunately, Kelsea’s mother, who was also surprised by the invitation, was in the wings watching when this great honor was bestowed on her daughter. Kelsea’s husband, singer- songwriter Morgan Evans, who is on tour with Dan + Shay, also tweeted a sweet message to his bride.

“Bursting with pride for my wife tonight. She was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry in the most badass way possible, singing with @littlebigtown … I think I got a little something in my eye … I love you baby!!! @KelseaBallerini.”

Kelsea told the Associated Press, “It’s such a rich, important place in the world, and especially in Nashville, and especially in country music. To be invited to even play it once is such an honor.”

The east Tennessee native will be celebrated in her official induction on April 16, just a handful of days after she kicks off her headlining “Miss Me More Tour” with Brett Young.
