The 2020 tour cancellations keep coming. First Taylor Swift cancelled her live appearances for 2020, then George Strait moved two of his dates to 2021 and now Kenny Chesney.

The 52-year-old singer was hoping he would be able to get back on the road later this year for his Chillaxification tour, but with the spread of the coronavirus continuing through the U.S., that hope would not be feasible.

“With so many tours needing to move and wanting to make sure we are in the best possible circumstances for No Shoes Nation, I think – and I hate saying this – it’s best to move everything into 2021,” Chesney says. “In the best interest of everyone – No Shoes Nation, my road family, the staff at the venues – we have decided to quit moving the dates around on the calendar, trying to make a chunk of this year work and go to where we believe we can roll out the entire Chillaxification Tour.”

In post on Instagram, Kenny shared the news.

“We have done everything possible…⁣⁣and things I’m not even sure we would’ve thought of three months ago.⁣⁣ Myself and my team have talked to ⁣⁣
medical experts, city commissioners, team owners, building staffs, the NFL, often daily,⁣⁣ because coming out to play for you is everything to us.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
“When we postponed our first wave of shows,⁣⁣ no one would’ve imagined we’d be here today…⁣⁣ Still wondering, still uncertain.⁣⁣ But as I said when we postponed those first dates,⁣⁣ I will not take chances with people I care about. ⁣⁣ I’ve laid awake many nights thinking about this,⁣⁣ not wanting to disappoint all the people who are with us every summer…⁣⁣some who fly from all over the country to meet up,⁣⁣ people who’re coming for the first time… ⁣⁣
friends who’ve met at the tailgate or the Sandbar.⁣⁣ No Shoes Nation is not just people buying a ticket to a show,⁣⁣ and I know that.⁣⁣ I care, because you guys care so very much.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But that’s exactly why…⁣⁣ 1) I wanted to tell you guys first⁣⁣ 2) I hate everything about what I’m about to say⁣⁣:

“No one has tried harder than my team⁣⁣ to make the 2020 Chillaxification Tour a reality…⁣⁣ Sadly, we can’t find a way to make it safe, ⁣⁣ to navigate water that’s just not getting any clearer.⁣⁣ For that reason, ⁣⁣ we have to postpone this year’s tour.⁣⁣ We are hoping to have the entire schedule for 2021 finalized quickly.⁣⁣ Right now, though, it’s you and me⁣⁣ and that’s what matters.”

The Chillaxification tour was set to kick off April 18 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas, with Florida Georgia Line, Old Dominion and Michael Franti & Spearhead joining the tour as support acts. However, once the coronavirus hit, Kenny was one of the first to post pone his tour dates. The early dates were being pushed back and Kenny was hoping to start up on May 30 at Heniz Field in Pittsburgh.  At that point, Kenny and his team were monitoring the situation.

“This is all uncharted. I’m like everyone else: watching the news, wondering when we may know something concrete, not sure how this gets transmitted, worried someone I know will catch it. I want to believe this will all be okay in the end; but right now, I don’t feel like this risk to No Shoes Nation is worth it,” he said earlier.

The new dates for 2021 are will be announced when they are finalized. Original tickets will be valid for a rescheduled show date. If you have tickets to a postponed show, refund options will be available at the time a rescheduled show date is announced.
