It was week two of competition on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, but it was the first elimination for season 28. So, while tension was high, every pair of dancers brought their best to the ballroom floor, including country music’s talented Lauren Alaina.

Lauren and her professional partner, Gleb Savchenko, were challenged with dancing the Paso Doble to Demi Lovato’s “Confident” for their second performance of the competition. Dressed in a sultry, long sleeved black dress, her hair swept into an elaborate updo, the Georgia beauty was confident and alluring as she executed a series of complicated steps, turns and kicks. At one point, Gleb grabbed her waist, ripping the skirt from Lauren and revealing an intricately detailed, sparkling catsuit.

Punctuating the end of their Paso Doble with Lauren dropping into a split, the couple hugged warmly as they waited for the judge’s comments and scores.

Carrie Ann Inaba asked Lauren how she felt, but before the country star could respond, she added, “It looked like it felt amazing. I love seeing you come out of your shell like this. You seem so conservative, but not today, not anymore!” She also pointed out that Lauren was extremely flexible — hello, that split  but warned her about staying focused and staying loose. “More open, more open,” she said.

And, in her typical hilarious style, Lauren replied, “I never really expected a man to rip my skirt off on TV, so. My dad is in Alabama very surprised right now.”

The lovable curmudgeon, Len Goodman, complimented Lauren’s power and attack. He did point out that this specific dance could have used more dancing, but he directed his technical comments more towards Gleb.

Lauren even charmed the charmer, judge Bruno Tonioli. “She’s gone nasty and I liked it,” he said while the sweet singer blushed and giggled. Bruno added, “I loved it, my darling. Nasty is good.”

Receiving sixes from Carrie Ann and Len and a seven from Bruno gave Lauren and Gleb a 19, which, when added with last week’s score, gave them a 39. And although the couple didn’t place as high as they  did in the week one leaderboard, they were saved from elimination.

Next week is Movie Night on Dancing With the Stars and the couples will dance to songs from
popular films.
