When Little Big Town was asked to be a part of a tribute to icon Elton John, the band jumped at the chance.
Jimi Westbrook, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman and Karen Fairchild were asked to reimagine Elton’s 1972 hit, “Rocket Man,” as part of Restoration: Reimagining The Songs Of Elton John and Bernie Taupin.
The country-pop band is now releasing the official music video for their reimagined rendition. The video, directed by TK McKamy, begins with a terrestrial feel as a young child takes his Elton John accessories and leaves his home on bike, after dark. Where he’s headed, we don’t know.
The little kid is soon seen heading toward a light that shoots from the sky, in the middle of a downtown area. In the interim, images of Jimi and LBT surrounding a shooting light are interspersed throughout. After the child gets off his bike and leans into the light, the child disappears and a cube appears in it’s place. Images of Elton and LBT performing, appear on the cube as a small crowd begins to gather. The End.
Sooo…. We have questions. Was the little kid an Elton John fan? An Alien? Where did he go after touching the light? How did he know the light was downtown? Are Little Big Town out in space? What’s the significance of the cube? Explain.
Either way, the video is out of this world. (Get it?)
