Young people are listening to country music and the Grand Ole Opry is listening to young people, which may be why the legendary country music institution just invited Luke Combs to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.
The invitation came on June 11, just a couple of days after Luke made his Nissan Stadium debut at CMA Music Festival and released his much buzzed about EP, The Prequel. Luke got the news from fellow country stars Chris Janson, Craig Morgan and the iconic John Conlee.
The Opry shared a video on their Twitter page of the moment that Luke got the news, and to say he was overcome, may be an understatement. It was the reaction you want every country star to have when bestowed with such an honor. He immediately burst into tears.
Wiping his eyes with his hands, then his shirt, it was obvious how important this milestone is to the talented young singer-songwriter. Even after he resumed his performance, he was wiping away tear.

Luke has been a force to be reckoned with since he burst onto the scene in 2016 with his debut major label single, “Hurricane.” In fact, he’s swept through the country scene like a hurricane, now five for five with every single he’s released hitting the top of the country singles chart. His most recent release, “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” is his sixth single and although it was just released on May 8, it is already in the Top 5 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
The North Carolina native has a full schedule of fairs and festivals this summer, and then in September, he and pals like Morgan Wallen, The Cadillac Three, and Jameson Rodgers will head out for the fall leg of the Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour.
Congratulations Luke and team!
