Luke Combs Keeps It Simple With New Music Video For “Even Though I’m Leaving” [Watch]


It’s always fun to consider how an artist and their team will go about interpreting a song into a music video. From concept videos that give the tune an entirely different spin, to performance videos that entice fans to attend a show, the options are endless. But if the lyrics are particularly poignant, sometimes it’s best to just let them be the spotlight, like Luke Combs has done with the video for “Even Though I’m Leaving.”

This beautifully written ballad from Luke’s most recent EP, The Prequel, presents three different scenarios: that of a father putting his son to bed, a son being deployed and leaving his father, and a son telling his passing father goodbye for the last time.

With such an emotional theme, Luke and his creative team kept the focus on the compelling lyrics by affecting a somber tone to the music video by keeping it in black-and-white. They then put Luke in the spotlight behind the microphone, occasionally panning to the band or the mesmerized audience.

This is Luke’s second single from The Prequel and his seventh overall. While it has only been at country radio since September 9, it is already at number 13 on the charts, making it his fastest- rising single to date and, likely, his eighth number-one.

Meanwhile, the artist who is rapidly becoming known as one of the nicest guys in the biz is maintaining his rigorous touring schedule. Upcoming shows include All for the Hall in Los Angeles on September 17, Farm Aid in East Troy, Wisconsin on September 21 and Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival in Cincinnati on September 22. After that, it’s the fall leg of the Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour, which through December.
