Maddie Poppe was on hand to perform during the 2018 Special Olympics. Held at Seattle’s Husky Stadium on July 1, the live broadcast of the event included the “American Idol” Season 16 winner singing her uplifting new single, “Going Going Gone.”
Dressed in a red jumpsuit, Maddie’s vocals soared on the folk-infused number. Standing on stage at the outdoor stadium alone with her acoustic guitar, the singer was at ease as the contestants from the 2018 Special Olympics looked on. With wavering vocals, the empowering lyrics behind “Going Going Gone” made the song the perfect soundtrack for the day’s events.
“Maybe I was meant to run / Maybe I was born to bleed / I don’t know who I’ll become / But I’ll be going going gone / And even if it starts to hurt / I wanna feel it ’til my whole heart bursts / ‘Cause I will be forever young / So I’ll be going going going going / Gone, gone,” she sings in the chorus.
Maddie released “Going Going Gone” as her first single to radio following her win of Season 16 of the reality singing competition show earlier this year. The carefree music video to the song was unveiled last week and includes an unexpected road trip adventure where the singer learns who she is meant to be. Directed by Jeff Venable, Maddie says the video was the perfect addition to the song.
“This was my first major video shoot, and everyone involved made it really fun,” Maddie says in a statement. “I love how the rhythm of the song syncs up to the drive.”
Maddie has a busy summer ahead as she joins her fellow “American Idol” contestants on the road for the American Idol: Live! Tour, which kicks off in July. Fans can expect the singer to perform her current single throughout the trek.
