Maddie & Tae visited “Today” on Monday (Oct. 22) where they performed their latest single “Friends Don’t” for Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford as well as filled the co-hosts in on their upcoming tour with Carrie Underwood.
Hoda and Kathie Lee are old friends of the country duo, as their very first television performance four years ago was on “Today.” When asked if Maddie & Tae are still pinching themselves every day, they admit that they are — especially after being invited on Carrie’s upcoming 2019 Cry Pretty Tour 360.
“We got a taste of what the tour is going to be like because we performed at the CMT Artists of the Year Awards with Carrie and Runaway June and that woman doesn’t miss a note ever,” Tae marveled of her future tour boss.

While the women have months before the tour kicks off, a newly engaged Maddie admits that she’s trying to get her wedding planned before then. The duo then revealed how they were invited on the road with the “Cry Pretty” singer.
“We actually got the call from our manager when we were on the bus playing a show somewhere. She called us and said, ‘I have some news,'” Tae recalled. “We heard she was planning this tour and really wanted to take some artists out with her. We knew the first slot was taken and direct support was up in the air. She told us we got the slot and we squealed.”
“We scared everyone on the bus that’s for sure,” Maddie added.
Following their chat with Hoda and Kathie Lee, Maddie & Tae performed their latest single “Friends Don’t.” With stunning harmonies, the duo demonstrated just why Carrie selected them as direct support for her upcoming tour. Backed by a full band that included wavering pedal steel, ear-grabbing slide guitar, slick percussion and a steady bass beat, Maddie & Tae impressed.
