Maddie & Tae are back. The country duo have announced the release of their first new single, “Friends Don’t, in two years.

The long awaited song comes after the ladies fate turned in 2017. Their record label closed, leaving them with an uncertain future. After overcoming some disappointing times, Madde &Tae are ready to go with new music, after signing with a new record label.

“Friends Don’t,” written by Maddie, Tae, Justin Ebach and Jon Nite, is the first single from an upcoming sophomore album. It follows their 2015 debut album, Start Here, featuring their break out hit, “Girl In a Country Song.”

“I hope our fans love this song as much as we do,” says Maddie.  “Anything we ever do we have them in mind and want to always create music they can connect with. We have a big story to tell on this album, and ‘Friends Don’t’ is the beginning of it all.”

There’s no mistaking the pristine harmonies of the duo as they sing about acknowledging that a blossoming relationship is more than just a friendship.

Friends don’t call you in the middle of the night / Couldn’t even tell you why, they just felt like saying “hi” / Friends don’t stand around playing with their keys / Finding reasons not to leave, trying to hide the chemistry / Drive a little too slow / Take the long way home / Get a little too close / We do but, but friends don’t,” they sing in the chorus.

“It feels so good to be back with a song like this,” said Taylor.  “This song is everything we’ve always been.  Honest, vulnerable and confident.  We can’t wait for our fans to hear the rest of the record!”

With an upbeat tempo and grown up lyrics, “Friends Don’t” has Maddie & Tae back in the game, where they need to be.
