The Twitter police were out in full force after Maren Morris shared a photo of herself with her baby boy, Hayes, enjoying a sunny day on the lake. And husband Ryan Hurd had plenty to say about the comments.

It started when Maren shared the pic of herself and her firstborn in matching swimsuits floating on what appears to be a lake in a large white raft shaped like a car. Her caption riffed on the Little Big Town hit saying simply, “Motor-floatin’.”

While most comments were adoring and supportive of the mom and baby, there were a few assumed mothering experts that questioned the infant’s safety.
“Where is the baby’s life jacket???,” wrote one follower.
“No life jackets. Wow, just wow ,” added another.
“Gust of wind – baby is toast,” commented another.

Maren, who doesn’t often share photos of Hayes, commented on one post: “Honestly, I get so many criticisms of my motherhood on anything I post of Hayes, so I may just discontinue posting photos of him. Sucks but it’s kind of where I’m at.”

Proud papa Ryan Hurd wasn’t quite finished with the topic though. Coming to his wife’s defense, he shared his own thoughts.
In a thread, he tweeted, “I’d just like to say, my wife usually doesn’t need me to defend her, but she’s a great mom, and my kid was not unsafe on a float in 1 feet of water being held by an adult with 5 people watching so she could get a picture.”

He also added, “Hayes has 2 coast guard approved life jackets that he wears. Also, sometimes moms have a drink, and homegirl earned it.”
And the moral of the story is, as long as social media gives people a platform to declare themselves armchair experts, they’ll be voicing their opinions – solicited or not. This is also a good reminder that social media posts are just a snapshot – sometimes literally and sometimes figuratively – of a bigger picture.
