Maren Morris isn’t holding back her feelings after Nashville’s Mayor, Megan Barry, was forced to resign from office Tuesday (March 6).
The singer took to Twitter to relay her feelings. Although conflicted by the issue, Maren revealed that the Mayor helped her through tough time she had with a stalker.
“I get why it had to be this way, but I’m very sad Megan Barry is resigning. As the mayor of Music City, she always came to shows. Years ago, she and Sgt. Forrest helped me by taking care of a really terrifying stalker issue I had. I felt safer as an artist in Nashville.”
The Mayor of Nashville had to resign from office after an investigation into her extramarital affair with bodyguard Sgt. Robert Forrest, brought to light the misappropriation of city funds.
According to the Tennessean, Mayor Barry pleaded guilty on Tuesday morning (March 6) to felony theft of property of over $10,000 in relation to a sex scandal involving her former head of security, Sgt. Rob Forrest. The Mayor was sentenced to three years probation and has agreed to reimburse the city $11,000 in unlawful expenses.
Sgt. Forrest also pleaded guilty to felony theft of property over $10,000 and was similarly given three years probation. He is required to reimburse Nashville $45,000 paid to him as salary.
Mayor Barry released a statement and took to Twitter to thank constituents for her time in office. “It has been the honor and it has been the privilege of my entire professional life to have had the blessing of this opportunity to be your mayor. I love you, Nashville.”
Mayor Barry was a fixture in the Nashville entertainment life. Often seen at country concerts, CMA awards, after parties and No. 1 parties in support of the country music community so prevalent in Nashville.
