Thursday, April 6, 2017 was officially Merle Haggard Day in Nashville, but by the likes of the people who showed up at Bridgestone Arena to celebrate the Hag, you would’ve thought it was a national holiday. Like, country music’s very own Christmas or something.

The almost unbelievable lineup consisted of nearly 30 artists, including Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, Toby Keith, Dierks Bentley, The Avett Brothers, John Mellencamp, Loretta Lynn, Jake Owen, Chris Janson, Hank Williams Jr., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kacey Musgraves, Alabama, Ben Haggard and Keith Richards.

The evening consisted of many surprises and memorable performances, but after Nelson and Chesney sang “Pancho and Lefty,” Nelson took the lead in singing “Okie From Muskogee” with just about everyone else on stage backing him up.

Haggard’s widow, who watched the entire show as her son, Ben Haggard, played many songs with artists, told The Tennessean, “This has been a monumental moment. I know Haggard’s here right now.”
