Miss America is Officially Removing the Swimsuit Portion From the Pageant

The Miss America pageant has some big changes ahead, starting with one of the biggest pieces of the show— the swimsuit competition.

Gretchen Carlson, the chairwoman of the Miss America board of directors, announced the change on “Good Morning America.”

“We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance. That’s huge,” she said.

Instead of a swimsuit competition, the ladies will do a live interactive session with all of the judges that highlights her “achievements and goals in life” and how she plans to use those when and if she is Miss America.

In December of 2017, the Huffington Post revealed that some of the top leaders of the Miss America Organization were sending lewd emails about contestants, which led to the major shift in the leadership and overall look of the pageant that we’re now seeing.

Now, the Miss America Organization is led by an all-female team, all of whom are former pageant winners.
