In 2012, country music legend Randy Travis was arrested for a DUI in Grayson County Texas. The singer plead guilty and was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and 24 months of community supervision. Despite the fact that it’s 5 years, the dash cam footage of Travis’ arrest has been released, after years of legal pleas from his legal team. Travis was arrested after his Trans Am hit several barricades in a construction zone.

Travis suffered a stroke in 2013 and has only recently begun to walk or communicate in any way.

Travis’ team was seeking to keep the footage private because the video shows Travis naked and belligerent. And since the stroke, Travis has no, “present ability to comment on the tape or defend himself if necessary.”

After appeals worked their way through up to the Texas Supreme Court and 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the video was released.

TMZ has released 3 hours of dashcam footage from the Texas Department of Public Safety, where Travis says to an arresting officer at one point, “You insulted me, you’re a dead man.” According to the Austin-American Statesman, “The images of his naked body will be redacted from the waist down, following a 2013 opinion from then-Attorney General Greg Abbott.”

Travis’ team has released a statement on his behalf:

Randy’s behavior was extremely altered the evening of his arrest due to the state of his mental health, and substances in his body, causing him to do and say things that were entirely out of character. He suffered a severe concussion and sustained numerous other injuries from the crash.

Notwithstanding the release of the tape, Randy and his team will have their day in court regarding the ongoing lawsuit against the State of Texas in relation to the violation of his civil rights.

Randy Travis is well-known to be a loving, caring person who is respectful of everyone, a video that shows anything otherwise only underscores that he was absolutely not himself. Randy is deeply apologetic for his actions that evening. A man of integrity with a good heart, Randy does not and will never condone these types of actions that distort the true beliefs of Randy Travis and his entire family.
