While Randy Travis continues his recovery from a massive stroke that he suffered in 2013, the country icon is satisfying his fan’s appetite for new music by releasing previously unreleased songs from his audio archives at Warner Bros.
Tipping his hat to his rural North Carolina roots, “Lead Me Home” is a delightful mix of traditional country sensibilities with bluegrass embellishments. Filled with truckloads of jangly acoustic guitars, dobro and fiddle, “Lead Me Home” is a joyful, toe-tapping country anthem to needing the love of a good woman. Although Randy and wife Mary weren’t married when this was recorded, it certainly sounds like it could be an ode to the woman who has seen him through this difficult time in his life.
“Mary was having to make life-or-death decisions about my situation all on her own, trusting God to guide her,” Randy shared in his memoir, Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith, and Braving the Storms of Life.
Randy’s memoir was recently awarded Audiophile magazine’s Earphones Award for the audiobook, which is narrated by Rory Feek. The award is presented monthly to the audio works that “excel in narrative voice and style, characterizations, suitability to audio, and enhancement of the text.”
The country legend continues to be a frequent visitor to the Grand Ole Opry, even attending the 10th anniversary celebration for his former duet partner, Carrie Underwood.
“Lead Me On” is available for purchase and streaming now.
