Reba McEntire Reveals Turning Down Molly Brown Role In “Titanic”

Reba McEntire fans know that the singer-songwriter-actress has an incredible background that encompasses a variety of different experiences, but not everyone knows EVERYTHING about the fan favorite super star.

However, when Reba appeared on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” actor Morris Chesnut revealed he just might know more about the country icon than you might think.

Participating in a rousing round of “The McEntire Truth,” various trivia bites were presented about Reba while Andy and Morris chose either true or false.

While Morris swept the competition, one of the cool tidbits that some might not have known was that Reba was offered and had to turn down the role of Molly Brown in the movie “Titanic.” But why?

Reba explained, “We were on tour and I had a lot of people on the payroll and we had these three months already scheduled to do the movie, and then they got behind on scheduling and said, ‘no, we’re going to have to move it in this time.’ So, we couldn’t reschedule all the arenas and everything.”

Andy asked if it killed her a bit that the movie went on to be such a success, and while Reba admitted that it did, she also said that her priority was taking care of her people.

The role did, of course, go to Kathy Bates. Coincidentally, nine years after “Titanic” was released Reba and Kathy “co-starred” in the movie “Charlotte’s Web.” The two accomplished actresses were the voices of Betsy and Bitsy the cows.

Reba’s new album, Stronger Than the Truth, drops on April 5, just a couple of days before the sassy spitfire takes the podium as the host of the ACM Awards. In addition to June and July weekends in Las Vegas with pals Brooks & Dunn, the legend is posting additional shows on her calendar. Check her website for details.
