In 1994 Reba released her single, “Why Haven’t I Heard From You” as the first single from her Read My Mind album. The song was as a sassy callout of a gentleman for not getting in touch via telephone when he said he would. The lyrics are hilariously old school now, “Baby you can dial direct / I got call forwarding and call waiting / You can even call collect” but the sass still resonates.
Throughout Reba’s historic career she’s a number of memorable performances, but her performance of “Why Haven’t I Heard From You” at the 1994 ACM Awards was tip-top for me. First, it’s basically 4 minutes of Reba struttin’, clappin’ and sangin’. She’s got backup dancers. And her outfit. Heaven help the angel that designed that teal fringe masterpiece.
The camerawork, unfortunately, isn’t as good as it needs to be, so we miss a lot of footwork and I’m fairly certain she did a body roll at one point. A body roll.
