It’s been just over three years since the country music community said their final farewell to Joey + Rory’s Joey Martin Feek. After a courageous battle against cancer, the talented beauty whose spirit was as breathtaking as her physical features, passed away with her family by her side. Following her death, Rory stepped away from the spotlight to focus on raising his youngest daughter, Indiana, with the help of his older daughters, Heidi and Hopie. He also said that it wasn’t likely he would return to music.

It took a little time and a little coaxing, but Rory eventually did return to the stage and, in a post on his Instagram page, it appears that he is now recording again. The image features Rory and hit music producer and musician Larry Beaird.

The caption reads “spent the morning recording a new cowboy Christmas song w our good friend Larry Beaird and his team @beairdmusicgroupinc . My first time recording since Joey and I made our Hymns album here in the summer of 2015. #baby steps #ifsantawasacowboy .”

The hymns album that Rory refers to the 2016 release, Hymns That Are Important To Us, much of which was recorded while Joey was undergoing cancer treatments. The project earned the couple a Grammy award for “Best Roots Gospel Album,” unfortunately, Joey did not survive to accept the award.

It seems fitting, though, that with Joey’s love of cowboys, that Rory’s return to music is in the form of a cowboy Christmas song. We can’t wait to hear the results.
