Runaway June Electrify On “Today” with Girl Power Anthem “Buy My Own Drinks”

Runaway June visited “Today” in New York City on Thursday (Nov. 1), to perform their infectious new single “Buy My Own Drinks.” Written by the band’s Naomi Cooke, Hannah Mulholland and Jennifer Wayne with Hillary Lindsey and Josh Kear, the song has a brokenhearted woman headed to the bar alone. When she’s approached by a man who offers to refresh her empty glass she politely tells him thank you and declines.

“I can drop my own change in the jukebox / I can dance all by myself / ‘Till I can stop thinkin’ ’bout, drinkin’ ’bout him, I don’t need nobody else / Yeah, I can buy my own drinks,” the trio sing on the song’s chorus.

Naomi serves as lead vocalist on the track with standout harmonies by her bandmates Hannah and Jennifer. An energetic performance that left co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, as well as special guest Martina McBride, impressed, Runaway June captivated the studio audience.

“Oh my God that’s so anthem-y!” Hoda exclaimed following the trio’s performance.

“Buy My Own Drinks” is featured on the band’s self-titled debut EP. In addition, The trio recently released a new song just in time for the holidays. Runaway June surprised fans Friday (11/2), by dropping their first-ever Christmas song “Sleigh Ride.”
