Sam Hunt was in attendance at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium on Wednesday evening (Aug. 22) for the 2018 ACM Honors but if you were there you might not have noticed him. The “Body Like a Back Road” singer was sporting a new look with a shaved head and no beard.

As Sam walked up to the stage to accept his Gene Weed Milestone Award in recognition of his 34-week No. 1 hit, it was obvious a major transformation happened. Gone were his memorable facial hair, ball cap and casual attire. Instead, the singer donned an impeccable cream suit to go along with his new clean-cut look.

While those in attendance eventually recognized the singer, he seemed at ease on stage thanking his co-writers Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Zach Crowell for penning the 2017 record-breaking hit as well as the industry for embracing it.

Sam recently released the music video for his latest single, “Downtown’s Dead,” which was filmed during a trip to Mexico. The song was released in May and co-written with the three men he saw success on “Body Like a Back Road” with, as well as Charlie Handsome.

“Downtown’s Dead” is the first taste of new music from Sam, following his massively successful “Body Like a Back Road,” which was No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart for a record-breaking 34 weeks. The song set the record for the most weeks at No. 1 in the six-decade history of the chart before Florida Georgia Line and Bebe Rexha topped his position, spending 37 weeks at No. 1 with “Meant to Be” this year.

“Body Like a Back Road” was named the 2017 Academy of Country Music Award for Single Record of the Year. Currently, Sam serves as a special guest this summer throughout Luke Bryan’s What Makes You Country Tour – XL Stadium Sized.
