Keith Urban was on hand at the 2018 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards on Sunday (Sept. 9) where he helped to induct Terri Clark into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. The Australian country star surprised the audience when he walked out on stage and had all in attendance screaming along as he walked up with Terri’s trophy.
“Ladies and gentleman, it’s my sincere honor to introduce the 2018 inductee to the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, Terri Clark,” Keith says as Terri joins him on the stage.
Humbled by the honor, Terri took a moment to compose herself before thanking those in attendance for their support over the years.
“To be congratulated by Reba and Brooks & Dunn and given this award by one of the most talented men on the planet is pretty awesome,” Terri marvels. “To be so fortunate to have made a career out of what started out as a hobby and childhood passion, well, this is truly humbling and surreal to me.”
She continues, “Looking back at the first chapter in my story, there are so many thanks owed to so many people who have helped me along the way, that it’s really hard for me to even know where to begin. First and foremost, I started out as a fan and that has come back in my direction with the most amazing and loyal fan base an artist could ever hope for,” she says.
While thanking her business team, country radio, band members and crew, the singer admits that all she ever wanted to do was to help bring “a smile to a sad face through a song” and be “a part of a moment in time someone will remember for years to come.”
“I can’t wait to see where this crazy ride takes me next. I’m not done! This is just the second chapter but tonight is going to be really hard to top,” she concedes.
The evening included a rousing medley of Terri’s hits performed by Canadian country stars Meghan Patrick, Suzy Bogguss, Jessica Mitchell and Terri herself. Watch their tribute below.
