Trace Adkins has always joked that he dreams of a movie role where he plays a deaf, mute gunslinger. While he’s waiting for that script to arrive, he has taken on a more meaty and meaningful role in the upcoming drama, Bennett’s War.

Trace plays father and farmer Cal Bennett. His son, Marshall, is an avid motocross racer who enlists in the Army and serves on the Army Motorcycle Unit. While in combat overseas, he is injured in an IED explosion and is discharged to recover back in the U.S. Upon returning home, he learns that the fate of the family farm is in peril after his father fell behind on the mortgage payments.

Putting his own life on the line, Marshall returns to racing in an effort to do his part to help his father and save the farm.

In the movie’s trailer, we see the strain that Marshall’s strenuous recovery and dubious return to this exciting and dangerous sport puts on his family, and the sacrifices they all make in order to come together.

The film also features Michael Roark as Marshall, Allison Paige as Sophie Bennett (Marshall’s wife), and Ali Afshar as Marshall’s friend and crew chief. Bennett’s War is directed by Alex Ranarivelo, who also directed The Ride, American Wrestler: The Wizard, and Running Wild.

This is Trace’s first film release since 2018’s successful release of I Can Only Imagine, which was based on the life story of MercyMe’s Bart Millard. According to IMDB, Trace has also wrapped filming on Adventures of Dally & Spanky, which tells the story of a girl who inherits a miniature horse with a special talent.

Bennett’s War is scheduled to be in theaters beginning August 30.
