Vince Gill Honors George Jones with Emotional “Sad One Comin’ On”

During his record label’s annual showcase at CRS in Nashville, Vince Gill used his time in the spotlight to remember one of his musical heroes and a country music legend.

Normally during the gathering of industry executives and professionals, artists take time to play new music or a big-time hit, but most artists aren’t Vince Gill. Gill spent most of the showcase watching his labelmates perform and was slated to play his newest single, “Take Me Down,” until he watched Chris Stapleton perform.

Gill took the stage and shared his plan for those in attendance at the Ryman Auditorium, “I felt like… standing over in the wings watching him sing may have been the first time some people have gotten to hear his voice. It reminded me of what it must’ve been like the first time you heard George Jones sing.”

So, even though he just released a brand new album, he opted to play his “Sad One Comin’ On,” a tribute he wrote to Jones.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the Mother Church.
